Day 49 Surprise

Posted by Sam Woollard

This will be a blog short on words as we only got back from Tesco's at 8.30pm and had to have a very quick tea before settling down in the twilight. The big surprise of the day was the arrival of the stained glass window. It won't be installed for a few days yet but I have taken a picture of it resting on the settee - don't you think that it is great? I'll try and get a better picture without the flash reflection and post it again.

We started painting and tiling the upstairs bathroom over the weekend, the colour turned out a bit brighter than we expected and the tiling has stopped temporarily until I figure out the best way to cut a square in the middle of a large tile. But the next picture gives an indication as to how it will look.

We will be sleeping in the new upstairs bedroom tonight, we vacated the other upstairs bedroom this morning in the expectation that John the electrician would be taking up the carpet to get at the lamp wiring underneath, but we heard that he had car trouble so he didn't come in. Hilary has made up a double bed and I am sure that we will be as snug as bugs in a rug - sleeping has not been a problem for us lately - and we also painted the ceiling of this new room over the weekend.

The final piece of good news, at least I think it is good although it will be a lot noisier for us, is that the wooden barrier that has separated us from the downstairs bedrooms has now been removed. This is because Simon has now finished his plastering in this part of the house, the kitchen wall behind the cooker and fridge and the new archway was the final piece in this part of the house. He has one small piece of plastering on the new landing ceiling to do and then he will be moving into the two downstairs bedrooms. Tom has completely boarded out the new diner/bedroom so Simon will start there and in the meantime Tony has been hacking out the floor of the smaller shower room to get the shower waste trap in. These last two pictures show the muddle that the two downstairs bedrooms are in, but we know that one day these will look as good as the new upstairs rooms.

OK that's it, we are out for lunch tomorrow with Sheila, Liz, Marlene and possibly Graham, we may also round the day off by going to see Harry Potter but that has yet to be finalised.
