Well it's not quite true to say that we are totally floored at least some of the upstairs flooring has been laid and that is shown in today's first photo. I am actually standing in front of the new upstairs window looking back towards the door. In front of me you can see some of the new flooring, to the left of the picture you can see what will be the wall of the new upstairs bathroom and to the right and opposite the bathroom there will be a landing cupboard. The only part of the old building that remains are those roofing timbers that still have some white paint on them.
The second picture does require some explanation I am actually standing in the new bathroom with the old study window behind me and I am looking towards what will be the new bathroom door. It's not easy to see but there are actually three doorways, one for the bathroom, one for the cupboard and the other is the entrance into the bedroom. Don't you just love the power point coming down from the ceiling - and it is live! It amazes me that we have to comply with pages and pages of wiring regulations, including having to fit doors on our bathroom merely to get power sockets close enough to the bathroom so that Hilary can use a hairdryer, yet all the while the workmen are allowed to carry on in this hazardous environment. As Gallagher would say, "This sh*t don't make no sense."
We had another full crew today and I think that positive progress was made, not only did we get all this stud work done but Tony was able to get our small loo working which means that we can now start to rip out the existing one. I made a start on it by taking down one side of the wall tiles and tomorrow I expect that we will both get stuck in and take out the bath/shower, sink and pan. We can then remove the old wall that I built and open up the new study. My major task for the day was completed, albeit with the help of Simon, when I made a 4 inch diameter hole in the wall for the dryer air vent. I still have to connect the dryer to the vent with some flexible hose but at least I got the hole in the right place and didn't hit either the water inlet or waste outlet. I also need to fit some shelves above the washer and drier to hold all our cleaning materials and most importantly our heavy 110V step down transformer that drives the washing machine. I will probably have to jury rig some wiring so that we can use the washer over the weekend.
Tomorrow we have to go into Tavistock and get cash out for Tony to pay the wages for the last two weeks and for some of the materials plus the hire of the trailer and digger that were used to take away the outside rubble.
