We arrived at the end of a week of perfect weather with a building that still looks like a public toilet, a house that is a complete tip and two OAP's who are completely knackered. Tonight I want to concentrate on the hell that has now become living at Middle Chub Tor, trust me it is not a pretty sight if you know the house at all.
Our first picture shows how our lovely conservatory, normally a quiet haven where you can relax and have a quiet cup of tea while watching the wildlife, has become a store for items we are unsure what to do with and a substitute study. We have been forced to move our round table into the kitchen and the rectangular one on the left is in limbo - or it may go into the store - we also decided at the very last minute not to store both our desktop PC's so now one of them, together with a printer and scanner are on one of the desks from upstairs.
We have had a constant round of requests for copies of the plans so we decided that this was a sensible resolution. However it has left me with a mess of paper on the desktop that I really need to sort out - somewhere on there are all the details of our holiday in Hawaii!
This second picture shows the area just in from of the broom cupboard under the stairs. Once upon a time we used to go down this passageway through the blocked up door to go to bed - seems to be a lifetime away! Hilary assures me that everything in this area is too precious to go into our storage unit.
Our final picture tonight is back in the kitchen where we are using one of the old kitchen units to block off the old entrance into the living room. We tried to combine it with the old worktop but
this was too long and in the roof we found an old top that I had made some years ago for a bookcase and this fitted perfectly. Now we have somewhere again to store the cookie jar!
So that is our life today, we have a grey block outhouse, a totally empty study, boxes hidden behind every settee and chair, no way of getting to our old bedrooms except by going outside, most of our clothes in storage along with our bed and it is going to get worse!!!! It is a Bank Holiday on Monday, while the rest of the country will be thinking of taking a rest, having a picnic or a day at the seaside, what have Hilary and I got planned? Wheeling barrow loads of soil from the mound currently residing on our lawn to a more suitable location, then tidying up the driveway so that we can get our car in and out without running over old plastic containers, broken drainpipes and lumps of concrete. Mind you, being a Bank Holiday, rain is forecast so we might just spend the short break indoors with our piles of junk, sorry that should be with our goods and chattels.
