Day 15 The morning after........

Posted by Sam Woollard

It was a long Bank Holiday weekend and when four men arrived, Simon, Sam, Marcus and Tom I anticipated a lot of progress today - I was sadly mistaken. Oh sure progress was made but there seemed to be an awful lot more discussion with 4 people than there was with 2. The weather was cold but clear for most of the day, a little shower in the afternoon but it was still warm enough for Marcus to wear his shorts all day. A brave man indeed, perhaps he has Scots ancestry and likes to feel the wind around his nether regions!

Most of today's progress was concerned with timber frames, some of them for the side walls - ours is not a traditional double block with air gap construction but is more like the American style except that the timber framing goes up after the blocks are put up. We also saw some timber beams placed across the roof and a few spindly pieces of wood sticking out from the top. These are shown in the pictures on the left at the top and the bottom.
I am still waiting for the big A frames to go across the gable end so that I can see the exact shape of the roof. The framed timber that you can see on the right is the beginning of the walls for the square shower in the smaller of the two bedrooms - soon to be dining/sitting room complete with sofa bed.
So roll on tomorrow and let's see if we get a bit more visible progress!

At least you have sunshine. It's rained all month. I've only seen the sun about five days total. It's gloomy.
